Get your spine exactly right
When designing a paperback cover for Amazon KDP, the spine width must match your page count precisely — or your cover will be rejected or misaligned. The width depends on paper type: white paper is 0.002252" per page, cream is 0.0025", and premium color is 0.002347".
Important spine rules
- Books under 100 pages can't have text on the spine
- Leave a small safety margin around spine text
- Always confirm with KDP's cover template generator before finalizing
