The 7 keywords that move books
Amazon KDP gives you seven backend keyword fields, 50 characters each. These aren't shown to readers — they tell Amazon's search engine when to surface your book. The biggest mistake authors make is using single words; instead use full search phrases a reader would type: "enemies to lovers hockey romance" beats "romance."
Tips
- Don't repeat words already in your title/subtitle — that's wasted space
- Fill all 50 characters per slot when you can
- Think like a buyer: tropes, settings, "books like [bestseller]"
- No competitor author names or trademarks (against KDP rules)
